Oh wow! I was expecting a demo until much later! TLT is full of surprises!
Commencing download!
Skybane_Zero - November 9th, 2012 - 01:09 am EST
It was very simple, as you stated, but I was amazed at how extremely smoothly it ran! Nice job, guys! It'll be interesting to see how these demos improve as time goes on!
Hikari - November 9th, 2012 - 04:10 am EST
I can't believe what I just saw! I'm glad these old eyes of mine lasted long enough to see it!

Seriously, I have to say I didn't expect that level of quality from the first release! It may be simple, but it's also surprisingly fun to play!
Everything feels right. The camera options are nice. There's even a little animation added if you stand still for a couple of seconds. . .

I admire the hard work you're putting into the project.
Zaiy - November 9th, 2012 - 10:51 am EST
that game runs SOOO SMOOTH. the sounds with the footsteps was great...and the music was so soothing. very good job!
Blyka - November 9th, 2012 - 11:16 am EST
@Loken
Hope you enjoyed it!

@Skybane_Zero
Thanks! This was even more basic than we hoped for, but now that it's finally out it's exciting to think that it can only get better from here on. s-cool.gif
And thanks for spreading the word!

@Hikari
Thank you! I'm glad you found the demo so enjoyable at this stage. Despite its simplicity a lot of work went into getting it to this point, so it's great to know people are enjoying our hard work.
And quotes for the win. :)

@Zaiy
Thanks! Heh, "smooth" seems to be a commonly used word on the demo, which is truly awesome to hear this early on. And yeah, Mr. Foetus did a wonderful job with the music, as always.

My brother and I just played this and we're freak'n stoked! You guys are doing a great job and I can't wait to play more demos and eventually the final game. I listened through all the available music and it's so Legends it makes me happy. The original tracks for City Hall and Invading Forces happen to be a couple of my favorites.
fAB - November 9th, 2012 - 02:56 pm EST
Thanks, score! We're really glad to hear so many people are enjoying this release despite all that it doesn't have.
And yeah, those are some great original tracks. We're really lucky to have attracted such great musical talent to this project.

In terms of graphics... Fantastic! I love cell shaded games or at least the look of the cell shadedness
Nathan - November 9th, 2012 - 07:27 pm EST
Top-notch work, guys. One bug I noticed, though: When using the fixed camera angle (holding space) I could not run to the upper left or lower right. Upper right and lower left work fine, though.
Blyka - November 9th, 2012 - 09:21 pm EST
@Nathan
Thanks! Sorry to hear about the bug, although it isn't actually a game bug- it's a keyboard issue. That kind of thing happens on certain keyboards when key combinations are held; game works fine on my keyboard, doesn't on fAB's.
With that in mind, we'll probably provide an option to toggle the camera lock on press instead of unlocking it on release.

I hope we get to see some crazy expressions from Tuttle like in the link below. Also I'm sure you guys are already doing enough nit picking on your own, but I could see Tuttle's eyes being a bit more squinty and his expression slightly more scowled like you see in the in game model and drawing of Tuttle in MAOTB.

The game is definitely coming along nicely. If I were to really nitpick it though, the UVs on some of the rocks seem to stretch, which I guess to be the work of the planar mapping(or equivalent in blender) when mapping the UVs. So you should go back and make sure that you put a checker texture and see if the squares are stretched.
Nurul - November 10th, 2012 - 06:07 am EST
Well done. I have made a 2D platform game using flash actionscript, and on mine, I have a win condition and static traps. Make a win condition next. Frame rate works excellently though! :^)
Zaiy - November 10th, 2012 - 12:00 pm EST
@Score
Now that you mention it, his eyes do seem a bit off. idk how i didn't notice that lol. the weird thing is though, is normally his appearance doesnt really match his attitude? the descriptions say he is a 'weird' guy with a bizarre (and creepy) laugh. other then the purple he is dressed properly, yet he is a digger? instead of standard buster weaponry he has a cane.
So i dont really understand why he had such a scowl since he was so...goofy? i think it was just to juxtapose his personality, but im not sure if im misinterpreting anything or just reading too much into it. lol
fAB - November 10th, 2012 - 02:10 pm EST
@score
His eyes aren't quite the same in the official artwork, but maybe just enough you might be onto something there. We'll definitely be laying on the expressions thick. Tuttle's a very animated kind of guy.

@sjbdg24
Thanks much. The environment is of course only temporary at this point and was thrown together pretty quickly just so Tuttle would have a place to be in the demo.

@Nurul
By win condition, do you mean something that can be accomplished so that you actually "complete" the demo?
Dashe - November 12th, 2012 - 09:11 pm EST
Since everyone's been saying the demo plays smoothly, I made it a point to try this out on the crappiest computer I could find just to see if it'd run. It actually does, just as smoothly as the people with normal specs and technological luck seem to be getting. I don't even have the weird keyboard issue. Colour me impressed. You may have officially won at programming.

One thing I can potentially see as a setback, though, is the way the environment geometry stays opaque when it gets between Tuttle and the camera. In the original Legends games this wasn't as much of an issue because somehow walls and things turned transparent when they ended up sandwiched between you and the camera. As it is now, though, I can very easily see myself getting confused (and potentially killed) in narrow, twisting hallways, should you decide to include those.

Keep up the awesome work!
Blyka - November 13th, 2012 - 11:43 am EST
Thanks for the feedback and compliments, Dashe!
Nice to hear it ran smoothly on the crappiest computer you could find. Unity seems to be pretty good about downgrading graphics and stuff as necessary for old computers, so here's hoping it continues to run decently in future, heavier releases.

You "potentially" see the camera as a setback? s-wink.gif Of course, what Legends ruin environment is complete without narrow, twisting hallways? The camera is definitely still in progress; rest assured later releases will address that, the end result probably feeling like the original Legends games.
Dashe - November 13th, 2012 - 01:11 pm EST
Well, potentially, considering any minute I might be able to acquire X-Ray vision. Actually, wait, scratch that. Even with X-ray vision I'd probably just get a nice view of monitor parts.
